Moenda Velha 2.1

We are located in Barril de Alva on the riverside,The campsite is open from May to October.
Our emphasis is on combining a low impact camp site with the diverse natural fauna and flora of the area.
At Moenda Velha we offer glamping in comfort in a magical setting, our two medieval tents are nestled in a secluded, but not remote valley.

Visitors can relax in the dappled shade among the willows with the sound of the millstream as it passes, winding its way to the beautiful River Alva.
Our private and secluded little river beach offers a chance to cool off with a swim or canoe or just observe the wildlife
We monitor and record the fauna and flora of the varied habitats of the site and are keen to promote awareness and interest in field studies. Visitors are encouraged (but not obliged) to re - connect with nature and the abundance of native wild flowers birds and mammals.
Kingfishers and otters are a treat to observe and at dusk the night jar birds come and perform a spectacular flight display. When the night shift animals appear we have trail cameras that will often give surprising results.Field guides and monitoring equipment can be arranged.
A short walk is the village of Barril de Alva with a friendly post office, bar, cafe and shop, another short walk is the Pont restaurant alongside the river beach with picnic / bbq and woodland walks. There is also a monthly market here (3rd |Sat /month).
The beautiful town of Coja is about 3 km away where you can relax with a drink in the square, eat at the cafes and restaurants or party at festa times.
There are several medieval fairs in the area notably coja and Larousa which is a 15 min scenic drive away. The medieval village of Larousa hosts a wonderful medieval festival showcasing local artisan products, archery and jousting and of course much merrymaking.
