Utopia 500 3.6

Utopia500 could be briefly described as a commemorative programme of the 500th anniversary of Thomas More's Utopia, and is being carried out globally over 2016. Despite this being the official presentation of the project, we should also mention that since the summer of 2015, when more and more young professionals and students from all over the world started to join the Utopia500 team, it quickly evolved into a more composite and diverse concept that could be fairly called a utopian movement.

Utopia500 project is commemorating the 500 years of utopias at a global scale and includes four main subprojects — Great Utopians, Sounds of Utopia, PAN-Utopia and ARUS (Advanced Research in Utopian Studies) — along with a forthcoming international conference (Lisbon, 5-9 July). Another major event in which Utopia 500 will be participating is the celebrated literary festival Folio (Óbidos, September/October).

We are willing to illustrate how Thomas More’s “Utopia” can reflect in our modern world and inspire us to think over the ways of re-defining our society and creating positive change around us.
